Omnilux blue^TM + Levulan®
Photodynamic Acne Therapy is a new powerful tool in the treatment of resistant acne. This procedure combines Omnilux blue^TM light and special photosensitizing medication called Levulan. As Levulan is applied to your skin, it is absorbed by active acne, sun damaged skin, or actinic keratosis making the targeted skin cells more sensitive to the blue light.

The combination of Levulan and Omnilux blue^TM light is what gives rise to the term “photodynamic therapy." This treatment targets and destroys acne activity, reduces oiliness of the skin, and leaves the skin smoother, and in many cases makes it possible to avoid usage of antibiotics or Accutane.

Prior to Photodynamic Acne Treatment, the best available treatment option for resistant and cystic acne had been Accutane. However, with Accutane there are many systemic side effects including birth defects, liver abnormalities, depression, skin dryness and night vision changes.
Photodynamic therapy has no systemic side effects since the medication and the light are working as topical agents.
